What Is Health?

The World Health Organization defines health as the "state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease". 

Nature vs nurture 
The state of a person''s health is the product of genetic endowment, age, nutrition, other aspects of lifestyle (such as physical activity and smoking habits), social environment (housing conditions, sanitation and hygiene) and social cultural environment such as stress, working conditions and family support. 

Health - In Your Hands 
Heredity cannot be changed. Environment and health care services are hard to change. However, every individual can modify lifestyle, to attain best health. Habitual diet, exercise, and stress determine lifestyle. Every individual therefore has tremendous potential to prevent disease by changing his or her lifestyle. Small, positive changes can help prevent or delay the onset of diseases. 

Why a healthy lifestyle? 
Lifestyle has a significant impact on an individual''s immediate well being, as well as long-term functioning. A healthy lifestyle is therefore the key to getting the most out of life. It helps an individual look good, feel good and stay well. 

What is a healthy lifestyle? 
A healthy lifestyle means adopting good health habits and giving up harmful ones. It includes:

  • A well-balanced diet,

  • Regular and effective exercise, and

  • Stress management

How to live a healthy lifestyle? 
To enjoy a healthy lifestyle eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and manage stress.
