Interest in functional foods, ever since it was first introduced by the Japanese more than thirty years ago has prompted innovations that are fast increasing in the marketplace. Malaysia, being a country rich in flora and fauna is well poised to be involved in research in this field. This is evident from the growing number of scientists and industries involved in various aspects of functional foods. Of greatest importance is research on how foods can be tapped for their medicinal and health benefits and therefore contribute to higher quality of life. This seminar provides an update on research of varying aspects of functional foods as well as an opportunity for networking among scientists and related personnel involved in all aspects of functional food in the country.
