GLOSSARY

Here are some common words that are used in cardiac Management which is very useful to understand in the layman's terms.

 

T
Target heart rate
  Desired heart rate during exercise training; usually 605 - 85 % of the symptom-limited heart rate
Thallium scans
  A nuclear medicine test in which thallium, a radioactive isotope, is injected into a vein during exercise and then scanned with a special instrument in an effort to detect myocardial ischemia.
Thrombus
  A clot of blood that partially or completely blocks off a blood vessel.
Tricuspid valve
  The heart valve between the right atrium and the right ventricle.
V
Vein
  Blood vessels that transport blood to the heart; veins carry u non oxygenated blood (with exception of the pulmonary veins).
Ventricle
  Lower chamber of the heart (left and right)
Ventricular fibrillation
  Irregular and ineffective contractions of the ventricles, which, if uninterrupted, result in death.
